  The papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, documents, ephemera, and printed material related to the FNCB, NCB and local ballet companies; the papers also include sheet music and original music scores, ballet production files and photographs for the FNCB and NCB. The papers are especially strong as a visual record with a large number of photographs, publicity material, costume sketches, and printed posters.

  Manuscripts

  The collection is single-item cataloged and contains 759 items including 92 manuscripts. Most of the manuscripts are documents regarding the advertising, circulation, and financial concerns of The Los Angeles record, The San Diego sun, and The San Francisco daily news from the early 1910s. The other substantial manuscripts are diaries of Adaline Rhoads and Roscoe Maxwell Rhoads detailing the social life and customs of late-19th century Indiana and early-20th century Southern California. Adaline Rhoads wrote about her daily chores, the activities of her children and her travels. Roscoe Maxwell Rhoads also details his attempts to mend his health through exercise, various diets, bathing in magnetic wells and two visits to the Battle Creek Sanitarium in the late 1890s. Roscoe Maxwell Rhoads also detailed the family's journey from Anderson, Indiana to San Diego, California and their later move to La Jolla, California. The collection contains 102 pieces of correspondence, the majority of which are addressed to Horace Emerson Rhoads regarding the newspaper business. There are also a significant number of letters from Horace Emerson Rhoads regarding the newspaper business and the San Diego Athletic Club. There are letters concerning San Diego and California politics, including three letters regarding the purchase of an airplane for the governor of California. Rhoads received letters on the subject of honorary membership in the Los Angeles Record Newsboys' Club. The collection also contains letters regarding participation in La Jolla events and politics.

  The collection is semi-cataloged and consists of 987 items in 6 boxes with the manuscripts and correspondence arranged alphabetically by author and the ephemera arranged alphabetically by type. The manuscripts number 54 items. The manuscripts consist of some original poetry, reminiscences regarding the founding and settling of Woodland, Idaho, and various manuscripts related to the city. The memoirs relate the trip to Woodland and the family relations of the people who settled it. Correspondence numbers 413 items. The majority of the correspondence is to or from the Austin S. and Sarah Haskins George Family. There are many postcards to Estella Haskins George, mostly regarding birthday wishes. The letters mostly deal with the concerns of farmers in Nebraska, Kentucky and Idaho. Many detail everyday life of these farmers and their families in the 1890s. The Ephemera consists of 522 items. This section includes unsent postcards representing a variety of types from the turn of the 20th century. The research material related to the book Tales from Sarah's shoebox includes photocopies of photographs, articles and documents. There are also photographs of Sarah Haskins George's family and that of her husband. Other material includes items relating to Woodland, Idaho founding and early years. Many of the items in the collection have been published in Tale's from Sarah's shoebox by Donna Utter.
