    Manuscript map drawn by Charles Rivez, apparently copied from an earlier map. Drawn up for use in the French and Indian War. Locates Indian Town, with quarries, coal mine and the French shipyard. Shows the soundings of Spanish Bay and free deposits of coal and stone. Ink and wash, with outline in red.

    Manuscript map drawn by Charles Rivez, apparently a copy of an earlier map. Shows the St. Lawrence from Quebec to the Isle of Anticosti, locating Québec, the islands, rivers, capes and mountains. The inset map shows the the Gulf of St. Lawrence from the Strait of Belle Isle to Nova Scotia, with Newfoundland, Cape Breton, Isle of St. John and the coast to Gaspee Bay. Soundings are noted for the Gulf. Another copy of this map, also by Charles Rivez shows more detailed soundings, for both St. Lawrence River and the Gulf, has the shoals and and banks colored in blue and sailing directions in English (see mssHM 15430).

    Manuscript map drawn by Charles Rivez, apparently a copy of an earlier map. Shows the St. Lawrence from Quebec to the Isle of Anticosti, locating Québec, the islands, rivers, capes and mountains. Detailed soundings are given for both the river and gulf maps. Shoals and banks are colored in blue. An observation of sailing directions is in English and in a different hand than Rivez.     Manuscripts

    Manuscript map depicting the Gaspé Bay and Cape, with ship soundings given for approach into the harbor and two drawings of landfall on either side. Executed approximately 1757, it appears to have been drawn up by the British forces while Gaspé was in French possession during the French and Indian War. The map has been attributed to Charles Rohr, an engineer with the British Forces.

    Manuscript plan showing the harbors around Passamaquoddy Bay and the Bay of Fundy. The mouths of the Passamaquoddy and St. Croix rivers are depicted. Areas of safe anchorage are noted as well as known ship tracks. A note under the bar graph reads: "That those parts of this plan where the ships traks sounding are laid down may be safely depended on, but what leghs, rocks, or sundings there may be else I know not." Bernard Ratzer was a Lieutenant in the 60th Royal American Regiment.
