Description
Album is bound in textured black material. The title, "Under the Southern Cross," is embossed in gold lettering in the center of the front cover. The number "56" is affixed to the top of spine with glue. Images are primarily commercial souvenir photographs and postcards probably purchased during the London's stay in the Gilbert Islands. A few panoramic landscapes and other views are possibly taken by Jack London.

Provenance
The nucleus of the collection was purchased by Henry Huntington from Charmian London in 1925. Additional groups of material were acquired by both gift and purchase from Mrs. London and later from literary executors Irving Shepard and I. Milo Shepard over many years. Further material has been acquired from other sources; the provenance of these items is noted on the individual folders.
